Mary Gajda and I have a pretty good relationship. We work on a lot of different projects together, and are fairly in tune with one another. She is a co-owner of Studio M in Holt, and the sole photographer for her spinoff, Boudoir by Mary.
We've kept tabs over the past few months about redoing The Face casting call. If you missed it last year, we recruited a bunch of ladies from all over Lansing to represent our brands together. We each have in mind people that we feel represent us the best, and it's kind of funny when we come together to use the same models. There's a bit of compromise, a bit of laughter at ourselves, and a LOT of stress and frustration over choosing between the entries.
We recently asked ladies to submit just a few answers to a couple questions, indicating why they'd make a good Face for us. I personally am concious of the fact that we as a business fit from small through plus sizes, so a representation is a good blend in sizes/shapes. Every entry is accepted unless they don't follow the rules to submit. We want these ladies to feel empowered! Maybe they've never thought of themselves as a model. Maybe they had self-esteem issues for years. Similar to our CelebrateYOU Project, the Face represents just being a woman!
We love using local women for our different projects. Not only is is convenient, but it's fun to recognize people you know in advertisements! We can do last minute photo shoots, and make them more frequent.
The deadline to submit for this year's Face was Saturday the 12th. After a few days and several opinions, we've narrowed down to our Top 9 ladies! We will soon narrow the field further based on video interviews, etc. But in the meantime, we are very happy to introduce (in no particular order):
To those who submitted who were not selected into our Top 9, THANK YOU! This process is extremely difficult, and we wholeheartedly appreciate your bravery in wanting to be a part of this project. Unfortunately we can't use everyone, but would love it if we could! Stay tuned for more updates as we progress this week!
